Bosnia
and Herzegovina is
situated in South
Eastern Europe, in
the central part of
the Balkan Peninsula
. It has an area of
51.197 km2. North,
West and southwest
bounds with Croatian
Republic and East
and South with
Serbia and
Montenegro. Bosnia
and Herzegovina has
a small territorial
exit to the sea
around Neum (21
kilometers).
The country is
mostly made of hills
and mountains (with
an average altitude
of 500 meters). Many
rivers flow through
this country, some
of theme are Sava,
Drina, Bosna, Una,
Vrbas and Neretva.
According to the
1991 census, Bosnia
and Herzegovina had
a population of 4.4
million inhabitants
and a GDP per capita
of about 2,500 USD,
placing B&H among
medium-developed
countries.
The country is a
homeland to three
ethnic "constituent
peoples": Bosniaks,
Serbs and Croats.
21. November. 1995.
the Dayton deal was
brought to the
Bosnian war-scene
and signed in Paris
on 14. December.
1995. this is the
time when basic
state law and state
has been
established.
In administrative
aspect it is
constructed of two
parts:
Federal part of
Bosnia and
Herzegovina (51
percent) and,
Republic of
Srpska (49
percent)
Federation has 10
cantonal
parts, and each
cantonal part has
few county seats
(towns).
Special place takes
District Brcko
wich is put under
control of Bosnia
and Herzegovina
state.
Bosnia and
Herzegovina is
constructed of big,
four geographical
parts:
- Middle Bosnia;
(area 12 920 km,
inhabitants 1 249
000) characterized
as mountain part,
the most progressive
part of the country
and in the same time
from the very past
is cultural crossing
of peripanonic
calcite and sub –
mediterranean areas.
- Bosnia and
Herzegovina high
calcite area; (area
11 842 km,
inhabitants
325 000) takes
mountain – calcite
parts of west Bosnia
and Herzegovina,
this is the part
with very small
inhabitation but
also very poor part
of the country. Only
nine percent area is
agricultural used,
and in the towns of
this area lives less
than thirty percent
of Bosnia and
Herzegovina
inhabitants.
- Mediteran area,
so called, low
Herzegovina (area 5
399 km, inhabitants
296 000) the Bosnia
and Herzegovina
smallest area; that
is slowly mountain
area of the middle
seaboard.
